Kitchen Supplies

Here are a few helpful cooking and baking supplies to have on hand in your vegan kitchen.  Of course, none of these are absolutely necessary!  Vegan cooking can be as simple or complex as you like.

  • Immersion (hand) blender
    Perfect for making smoothies and creamy soups.
  • Food processor
    Food processors are wonderful for making dips and spreads as well as vegan cheese and many other wonderful vegan dishes!
  • Beaters (or a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, for the super serious bakers)
  • Large mixing bowls
    Great for tossing salads together and for mixing batter and dough!
  • Skillets of varying sizes (with lids) 
  • Saucepans of varying sizes (with lids)
  • Large soup pot (with lid)
  • Salad spinner
    Wet lettuce can ruin any good salad dressing.  A salad spinner is a wonderful tool that will keep your salads sprightly!  I recommend this one, which is collapsible and can also be used as a mixing bowl and a colander.  It’s 3-in-1 and doesn’t take up much space!
  • Cookie sheet
  • Cake pans
  • Muffin pan
  • Pizza pan
  • Rolling pin
  • Whisk
  • High-quality chef’s knife
    A high-quality knife is well worth the investment; it is an absolute essential in my kitchen.  It will make cutting vegetables SO much easier and will last for years and years if you take care of it (no dishwashing!) and can be re-sharpened endlessly.  I have a Zwilling J.A. Henckles knife that I love and use every day.
  • Large and small cutting boards
    I like to have one cutting board for fruit and one for garlic, onions, and vegetables.  Garlic can be difficult to wash out completely, and there’s nothing worse than garlicky apples in your oatmeal.
  • Small compost receptacle
  • Slap-Chop
    Not essential, but these are great if you get bad onion eyes like I do!  Plus they make chopping onions so easy.
